The world uses many different energy sources. In 2018 fossil fuels like gas, oil and coal, accounted for more than 81 percent energy consumed. Different countries use different sources of energy to meet the environmental and economic demands.

When harnessed and converted into more efficient forms of energy, like heat or electricity, they are known as primary sources.
